Introducing North Harbour - Destination for your Rugby experience

The Region
It is our pleasure to introduce you to Harbour rugby and the Harbour region.
The North Harbour region is one of New Zealand's fastest growing and encompasses North Shore City, Waitakere City and the Rodney District which together cover an area with a population of over 250,000 people. The area is only five minutes north over the Harbour Bridge from downtown Auckland.takapuna_250

The very things that make our region the best place to live in provide many of the real qualities of Harbour rugby. North Harbour and North Shore City residents live alongside a sparkling maritime paradise. The long, golden coastline offers beautiful bays and beaches that are safe for all ages, while the water encourages a myriad of aquatic activities. Fine parks and bush walks add another dimension, while golfers can tee off year round at the many picturesque courses within the region. Add to this the many dining and entertainment options within the region and those that are also close at hand in Auckland — it is easy to see why this is New Zealand's most desirable place to live.

The facilities and amenities available within the Harbour region are the finest in New Zealand. There are high quality retail centres as well as world class sports and leisure facilities. Arts and culture are a special feature of the region, with exhibitions, live shows and music always in abundance.

The Union
The North Harbour Rugby Union was formed in 1985 and during this time has developed a reputation for playing colourful and entertaining rugby through all grades which no doubt is a result of the vibrant surroundings.
Harbour has also enjoyed a great deal of success on the rugby field having produced many All Blacks and other New Zealand Representative players, and also winning the 3rd and 2nd division titles in the early years, and making the final series of the nations NPC competition on several occasions during the 90's. Harbour has certainly captured the imagination of the rugby public throughout New Zealand in its short history.
The development of the game in the region has been further enhanced by the opportunities for our players to play in the Rugby Super 12 competition as part of our 'Blues' partnership with the Northland and Auckland unions.
With the development of the magnificent purpose-built North Harbour Stadium at Albany in the late 90's, this area became the home base of Harbour rugby. This futuristic multipurpose stadium is the envy of virtually all other rugby unions in the country and offers superb close-to-the-action viewing for over 25,000 spectators.

The stadium with its many functions rooms, offices and the adjacent domain and playing fields, provides an excellent home base for the North Harbour Rugby Union.

The North Harbour Stadium plays host to all Harbour home matches, Blues Rugby Super 14 matches, as well as international fixtures. The All Blacks have played tests and All Blacks trials at the stadium since 1997.

The Surroundings
Albany is being developed as the hub of the North Harbour region. Since 1993 the area has seen massive development with the creation of the North Harbour Industrial Estate, a number of retail shopping developments, and the creation of the Massey University Albany Campus adjacent to the North Harbour Stadium. This leading education facility — together with the AUT North Shore Campus and Auckland based UNITEC offers Harbour rugby and its players excellent tertiary study options.
Harbour, not only the most desirable place to live in — but perfect for rugby as well!
